Update Regarding The Wearable Art Project + Your Opinion

Two weeks have now gone by and we are in the final days of the Wearable Art of a Forgotten Species Project. I just wanted to let you all know how much I appreciate all of your support. This Kickstarter Project can not be accomplished on it’s own. So it’s kind supporters like each of you who keep this project moving forward. With less than 12 days left, this project has been an absolute pleasure to include you all in on.

The Launch Party was an absolute success! Thanks go to all of you who were able to attend (or who were there in spirit as well). The models looked so good and it was a pleasure seeing everyone try on the different fabrics.  You guys looked amazing!

I wanted to show you a few photos from our show last week which have prompted some of these hand painted scarves up close. Each painting is framed and created individually by the 4Bearance team, so every one is unique and one of a kind. They have been cast from antique frames dated some 80-130 years back. If one of these paintings catch your attention shoot me a link and lets see if we can work out a special offer. Thanks for your time today. I’m truly grateful for all of your support. I hope to have one of these lovely heirlooms wrapped softly around your neck soon. Until then, Resist + Remember.

I also wanted to hear your feedback on what areas you feel the Project could be improved. For instance, do you feel that I should include another garment i.e. t-shirts?  I look forward to hearing back from you.

Best,

Leah

Some FAQs’ on Kickstarter

us

Hi guys I just wanted to share a few FAQs’ some have asked me recently about Kickstarters and crowdfunding. Hope this answers some. Many were taken directly from Kickstarter.com. I added a few regarding my current project. And if you have any more, don’t hesitate to ask:)

What is Kickstarter?

Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects. Everything from films, games, and music to art, design, and technology. Kickstarter is full of ambitious, innovative, and imaginative projects that are brought to life through the direct support of people like you!

Since their launch on April 28, 2009, over $1 billion has been pledged by more than 5 million people, funding more than 60,000 creative projects.

How does Kickstarter work?

Thousands of projects are funding on Kickstarter at any given moment. Each project is independently created and crafted by the person behind it. The filmmakers, musicians, artists, and designers you see on Kickstarter have complete control and responsibility over their projects. They spend weeks building their project pages, shooting their videos, and brainstorming what rewards to offer backers. When they’re ready, creators launch their project and share it with their community.

Every project creator sets their project’s funding goal and deadline. If people like the project, they can pledge money to make it happen. If the project succeeds in reaching its funding goal, all backers’ credit cards are charged when time expires. If the project falls short, no one is charged. Funding on Kickstarter is all-or-nothing.

All-or-nothing funding is a core part of Kickstarter and it has a number of advantages:

It’s less risk for everyone. If you need $5,000, it’s tough having $1,000 and a bunch of people expecting you to complete a $5,000 project.

It motivates. If people want to see a project come to life, they’re going to spread the word.

It works. Of the projects that have reached 20% of their funding goal, 81% were successfully funded. Of the projects that have reached 60% of their funding goal, 98% were successfully funded. Projects either make their goal or find little support. There’s little in-between.

To date, an incredible 44% of projects have reached their funding goals.

Why is funding all-or-nothing?

Why do people back projects?

Many backers are rallying around their friends’ projects. Some are supporting a new effort from someone they’ve long admired. Some are just inspired by a new idea, while others are motivated to pledge by a project’s rewards — a copy of what’s being produced, a limited edition, or a custom experience related to the project.

Backing a project is more than just pledging funds to a creator. It’s pledging your support to a creative idea that you want to see exist in the world.

Where do backers come from?

In most cases, the majority of funding initially comes from the fans and friends of each project. If they like it, they’ll spread the word to their friends, and so on. Press, blogs, Twitter, Facebook, and Kickstarter itself are also big sources of traffic and pledges. Altogether, millions of people visit Kickstarter every week.

What do backers get in return?

Backers that support a project on Kickstarter get an inside look at the creative process, and help that project come to life. They also get to choose from a variety of unique rewards offered by the project creator. Rewards vary from project to project, but often include a copy of what is being produced (CD, DVD, book, etc.) or an experience unique to the project.

Project creators keep 100% ownership of their work, and Kickstarter cannot be used to offer equity, financial returns, or to solicit loans.

How do backers know if a project will follow through?

Launching a Kickstarter is a very public act, and creators put their reputations at risk when they do.

Backers should look for creators who share a clear plan for how their project will be completed and who have a history of doing so. Creators are encouraged to share links and as much background information as possible so backers can make informed decisions about the projects they support.

If a creator has no demonstrable experience in doing something like their project or doesn’t share key information, backers should take that into consideration. Does the creator include links to any websites that show work related to the project, or past projects? Does the creator appear in the video? Have they connected via Facebook?

Don’t hesitate to request information from a creator. You can always reach out before pledging via the “Contact me” button on the project page.

How do I know a project creator is who they claim they are?

Perhaps you know the project creator, or you heard about the project from a trusted source.Maybe they have a first-person video. That would be hard to fake. “Is it really U2?!” Well, it is if Bono’s talking about the project.Still not sure? Check the creator bio section on the project page for some background. Have they connected their Facebook account? Does the creator provide links for further verification? In the creator’s full bio, look for the verified name, next to a check mark. This person is the creator of the project or a part of the company or team behind it, and they verified their identity through an automated process. The name appears for projects that have launched since May 19, 2014.

The web is an invaluable resource for learning more about a person. At the end of the day, you can use your internet street smarts.

When are backers charged?

After the Kickstarter meets it’s goals, Amazon.com will charge the credit card on file and send the backer a receipt via email.

Hope this explains some things. Look forward to the months activity and seeing everyone at the show Saturday July 26th. In the meantime Resist + Remember. 20140718-180931-65371456.jpg

The RELIC That Saved The World & The SUN EATERS

RelicSunEaters

I’ve been working with the 4bearance in getting out more scarves that have been painted with the dye from the Flower that Feeds. We’ve recently noticed that when coupled with Sun Eaters collected from Chûndra’s bioengineered bird that we captured, The flowers anti-vapor effect is much, much stronger. In fact, after being charged with light, you can see their power radiate when dark.

Here are a few pictures of these relics on some of our members of the 4bearance. We will have more information about their availability to everyone very soon. In the meantime don’t forget.

CRADLE

The San Joaquin River ran drier this year. This drought has been one of the driest we’ve seen in over a 100 years, even before the time when mankind’s records began, so say many potamologists.

There is another kind of drought resonating around Chûndra’s lair today. It feeds Violet’s obsession for her, and Violet’s body still serves as a cradle for the larvae. As she hides in the shadows of the hallway waiting for Kalese, the larvae begin moving excitedly upon her suggestion. Kalese turns the corner, then she begins feeling a tingling sensation crawling along her left leg. She brushed off the irritation when suddenly a sharp pain struck her in her abdomen. She begins to panic now grasping for breath. As her vision finally adjust to the darkness, her consciousness wavers. And just before she passes out, the last thing she sees is Violet’s dark grin.

FLOODING PASSAGES

I opened the package today. Its’ content glowed bright inside. As I dragged my fingers across its petals, I could instantly feel their energy flow. I personally felt honored that The 4bearance would choose me for a task so important and intricate.

These flowers had already been dried. First, I would need to pulverize them into a fine flour. This would make them easier to be mixed with the paint. As the brushes form shapes across the fibers, a thin pattern is formed. The paint begins to dry but I could feel the tincture enter into my nasal passages. Instantly, memories from my youth begin flooding my mind once again.

CRACKED

Her heart broke a little as she realized Chûndra would never return the admiration she shared for her. These small impostors could sympathize with Violet’s emotions. However, from a larval state they bonded with her psyche creating a spark she felt was similar to the Ishan’s Magneto-sensors. Just then they crawl across her forearms and she could sense their thinking pattern.

She’ll prove to Chûndra that she could be special after all.

Meanwhile, The Impostors hunger became stronger as the days progressed. She watches as these creatures search for their next meal.

 SWARM

4bear only had a limited amount of time to search for a solution to this situation. Their remaining flowers’ were dwindling at an accelerated rate. One of the last few had been used to awaken Preet back in Chûndra’s lair. And so they placed the final remnant in a magnetic steel frame.

Back in their lab, the Impostor lays before them with its’ wings beating so rapidly, they had to restrain it with metal forceps.

But something strange begins to happen. First it’s hairy fibers begin glowing. Then from it’s antennae a sharp burst of yellow energy pierces the room. Their vision glows blurry as this sonar resonates throughout their ear canals. As a last resort, Aram’s flower sends an electric charge which slices it in half. Once they’ve recovered from the echo reverberating around them, they notice the insects wings no longer beat. But they couldn’t spare any more unnecessary tactics from Chûndra tonight. They placed the moth delicately inside of a glass bell jar to inspect more thoroughly tomorrow.

As they began to leave, Netra turns to Aram suddenly and asks, “Did you hear that?”

“No mom,” Aram says. “I didn’t hear anything. Did you?”

“Hmm, it must’ve just been my imagination.”

They then click the lights off and retire from an exhausting day.

MELT

Preet had fallen so hard. The last thing she had seen was glass on the floor and this green vapor rushing into her nostrils. As the gas rushed into her nasal passages, she can feel its’ dark energy stinging her lungs. The pain was so unexpected and intense- then everything turned black.

Anali watches her breathing pattern. This wasn’t good. She can hear the buzzing beginning again in the adjacent room. She reaches into her satchel wrapped around her waist. The Impostors had flown around her branches earlier and sensed she had something in her possession. She uses one of the last flowers to awaken Preet. As soon as the molecules from the flower penetrate her lungs, she instantly rises up from the electric charge stimulated throughout her body. They then flee from the palace safely.

Once back with 4bear, they begin to realize this traumatic event had explained many of the questions they’d been asking themselves for some time now.

THE SCENT OF ANTIQUITY

Anali and Preet would need to sneak out before Violet realizes their presence.  As they begin slowly backing out the room, Preet knocks over a glass case which breaks nosily into pieces on the marble floor. Then a dull fragrance was unleashed. Its’ scent knocks Preet on her back unconscious. This encasement contained fragments from a branch which had been tested on in this laboratory. Anali walks over to find Preet sleeping rather soundly.

Meanwhile, across the room, Violet senses some commotion happening near the entrance.  She had been so focused on the dark energy she was gathering from the Hummingbird Impostors, she hadn’t noticed her visitors.

A Habitat Made For Hiding

•Ishan Project: 296/69•

A HABITAT MADE FOR HIDING

After finding the old eucalyptus where Chûndra’s mother was buried, we expected to find her hideout. Nothing. So, 4bear devised a scheme to gather a few of The Flowers that Feed to bait the creatures she created to mimic our True Birds, so that they will lead us right to her. As we watch them flutter around the few petals, their tiny tongues begin licking the nectar from the flower’s base. Once their appetites were satisfied, they slowly drift away into the shadows. We began following them from a safe distance. These moths fly haphazardly into surrounding objects in a drunken style inebriated by the nectar.

As they dive deeper into the cave’s empty darkness, their wings echo against its’ walls creating a soft buzzing noise. Rïden had been the closest to them, but he underestimated how slick the cave’s floor had been. He slipped and broke one of his left branches. Once he gathered his bearings, his gaze drifts in front of him to a dim light. “Is that a window straight ahead?” he asks us.

A Portrait of Her Mother as Described by Chûndra

A PORTRAIT OF HER MOTHER AS DESCRIBED BY CHÛNDRA

Anali continues, “I remember Chûndra mentioning the connection she shared with her mother.

Chûndra cried when she mentioned how delicately she would brush her cheek with her limbs. She was born with a frown which wrinkled across her brow. However, whenever she was in her mothers presence, she’d wipe the wrinkle away with a soft magnetic touch. The energy would course through her system igniting something voltaic within her.

But it was her father’s (See DAY 28) obsession for her mother which made Chûndra’s spark turn sour.”

Left Hand

LEFT HAND

They appoint me to serve as secretary as the 4bearance sits down as a group to discuss this serious matter.

Anali: “This is a disaster. She’s destroyed the majority of our crops. What’s not completely destroyed has been diseased by Chûndra’s infestation.”

Koyu: “Fortunately, the Sower has given us a few additional seedlings which we’ve been successful in hiding.”

Jess folds her arms across the marble table then asks, “What I don’t understand is why we can’t find out where the vapor originates.”

Aram: “But didn’t you work there spying on her palace? Why don’t you know her whereabouts, Jess?”

Jess: “This is how things work in her palace—Chûndra trust no one. Each of her drones has their own individual assignments. No one knows what each other is doing. My specific division never allowed me to get close to the vapor’s origin. Chûndra is a deception specialist. That’s why she’s been so successful in keeping her secrets secret. She doesn’t let her left hand know what her right hand is doing.”

BEND

Preet stretches her branches and absorbs the solar energy generated from the Sun’s core. Temperatures in this Mediterranean climate had changed drastically. But one thing had remained the same: The 4bearance’s position in this battle had been compromised. She contorts her body once again as she considers her next movement. Then a pattern begins to form around her chest which spreads onto her limbs.

Surrendered

SURRENDERED

The Flowers had been entirely engulfed by the ferocious insect larvae. They had been feasting on its’ edible petals for several weeks now.  This was unusual since this species of insect tend to be in a dormant state this time of the year. But now, since so many people are unable to smell the flowers fragrance, they have find themselves more easily susceptible to Chûdra’s new scent.

One young woman witnessed the affect it had on many of her neighbors. She was terrified by what she was watching.  Her legs moved faster and faster away from the vapor but it wasn’t good enough. It then spread out like a thin gauze entrapping her and her family.  As the vapor dissolves the magnetic properties surrounding her dome, she slowly closes her eyes and succumbs to its’ influence.

A Gauze For Blinding

•Ishan Project: 279/86•

A GAUZE FOR BLINDING

Once the haze spread rampant, a fractal pattern of the mind was disturbed. Years ago, a distinct spiral pattern of 137.5° was given the name: A Golden angle. This angle forms a compact arrangement that is extremely efficient in distribution of matter creating what people commonly refer to as a Fibonacci sequence. This sequence can be seen in a snowflake, a pattern of a shellfish, or in the circular shapes created from the petals of a flower.

This young lady was one of the first observed by Jeth who took on peculiar changes. She had been dancing by herself one night to a tune created by the rain outside when suddenly, like a gauze, a purple film began blinding her vision. It circled itself around her eyes first destroying the flowers waking effects. It then formed a vice grip around her neck, suffocating then reconditioning her to this new vapor.

Jeth had been watching in horror as her movements once again became robotic.

PICTORIAL FOCUS

Our findings have now revealed that the samples derived from its remains were an extinct larvae. But we’ve noticed that these larvae became “feeding machines”, adapting mostly for consuming food and growing in size. Chûndra bioengineered these specifically for the Flowers that Feed. However we wouldn’t just sit and allow the battle to come to us.  The 4bearance decided to go on the offensive.

(Cont. from DAY 271) The noise had stopped entirely now. Then Aram alerts a Guardian to inspect this incident. Details generated through electric waves  have reported that the East Coast has now been affected. The holes seemed to have enlarged themselves and have spread to the plant’s root system. Aram, Netra, and Anali all watch in horror as the petals first fall. Then it seems as though it’s stamen begins to deteriorate, and we could no longer smell the fragrance. It’s sweet texture was replaced with a putrid scent.

BUOYANT WATERS

The fall was so sudden she hadn’t realized what had happened. As she drops, things seem to happen at slow moments. She breathes in the salty air and feels the wind brush across her. Her heart pounds so furiously as she gets near the jagged cliff. Closer, closer, closer… Then she feels the air around her stop. She feels her body begin to rise slowly then abruptly tossed into the buoyant waters. Gasping now with a mouth full of sea water, her imagination searches for some explanation of what has just transpired.

Preet watches from a distance as Violet begins swimming closer to the shore safely now. This one was too unstable. Preet now realizes her suspicions were accurate. Violet had been the culprit the entire time. She’d be banished from this point forward, but if Chûndra was wiling to go to this extreme, what other mischievous deeds did she have planned?

Watching the way Violet stands and walks away didn’t sit well.  Violet had been slightly rocking back and forth as if she were under the influence of something.  Once she leaves, Preet goes by the bay window she had been sitting at all afternoon. She notices the shape of her rear is still embedded in the leather cushions. As Preet gathers her limbs, she immediately sees the same two lights from a distance flashing back and forth.

“What was wrong with this young lady?” Preet wonders. She watches carefully as her smile falls dry and her emotions once again get the better of her. It seemed as though she’d been nervously snooping around the sanctuary also. Was she hiding from someone?

Joy had again been found in the 4bearance after being defeated so frequently recently. But instead of joining in their celebration Preet finds her focusing on something else. Others would come by her and she would smile as if everything was fine but once they left she notices Violet’s attention return outside the window.

Once it opens it’s eyes again, a new day has begun. Now free from her control, it’s wings begin flapping with great intensity.

Starving, this bird hadn’t had a decent meal in a long time, thanks to 4Bear. Jess was shocked how quickly it consumed the bushel of flowers. Immediately, it senses the papillae on the flowers of her left arm had come in contact with the seed. It’s right talon then slices into her dominate flower. She looks into his eyes at that moment, and sees something that resembles sorrow in them. The pain of his hunger was involuntary. It was bioengineered to be this way. It had to consume at this accelerated rate in order to squelch it.  As he begins to nibble on her flowers, the Bird senses her gaze. A connection is started between them as the erythromycin begins to destroy the sun eaters that cover his feathers.

Meanwhile,  Rïden and Koyu are building up an electromagnetic charge that starts sizzling through the air. Just as Jess breaks her gaze with the bird to tell Koyu to change plans, the electric charge stikes the bird. He cries out in agony. He struggles to flap his massive wings to try to get away but then abruptly slumps, falling to the ground. Although injured from the commotion, she bends over his  body and lays her right hand on its beak. Her heart sinks as she listens to its heart beat slowly then stop.

CONSOLATION

She knew from experience how quickly the Sufna could take over one’s mind. So she had placed the small specimen inside of her satchel. Jess had only carried the extra flower on her person as insurance, as a reminder. She had no idea that it would draw that bird.

Aram tries to calm her as she explains what happened.

His movements were so quick, she couldn’t anticipate his next step. Due to his insatiable appetite, he was unpredictable. Driven by rage and hunger he had lashed out at her. His talon slashed wildly at the leather strap stitched around her satchel. But in his efforts to consume its insides, he had severed her left forearm. Initially, she didn’t feel the pain because of the adrenaline rush. Once the satchel fell to the ground, the bird thrust her aside to feed on its flesh. She had barely escaped with her life. Looking back, she knew she should have listened to Jeth’s advice.

THE UNINVITED

I begin to notice the soft texture of Aram’s flowers begin to rise on her back as she senses an intruder approaching. This was impossible! There’s no way anyone could have found us. We were hidden in a place difficult to approach.  Everyone stands up to get themselves prepared for whatever is about to happen. I can feel my adrenaline rising.

Aram glances outside, focuses her retina and discovers a young woman slumped over the derailing near our entrance. Her head had been bobbing back and forth as if she had been crying profusely. A guardian is sent out to inspect this intruder. While approaching they notice that her left forearm had been displaced. It was as though a sharp protruding object had violently severed it from the elbow. “This young woman was so traumatized,” the Guardian reports, “she had been unable to communicate verbally with them.”

233BLUFFA ROYAL BLUFF

(Cont. from DAY 231) She finally exhales as she rounds the corner. She had to admit, she had been concerned this plan may not have come to fruition. So the disguise worked after all! Jess had been able to trick the Head Triton over Chûndra’s imperial Guard.

It had been an extraordinary challenge smuggling the little sun-eaters into her satchel.  And an even greater test manipulating them into a reflective mirror casting an image she intended.

She couldn’t help but shiver as she remembers her hands molding the little algae in a dense dark corner over her face. The blue/green bacteria began falling down her neck as it began to morph itself into an image she had projected into it’s thinking pattern.  Kalese’s image would be one of several used against her. Chûndra had no idea what was in store for her.

WAYWARD

Back in Chûndra’s palace one of the Tritons begin to notice that Kalese has left her post uncharacteristically after their regular curfew.  In fact, she no longer is moving in harmony with them under the vapor’s control. She seems to exhibit a bit more independence than the average soldier. Chûndra has found this independence has been to her advantage for certain tasks, but now this girl is too much out of sync. It’s as though she has a mind of her own, which is unnecessary under this regime.   Something had gone wrong with this soldier. It was best to report this matter directly to their superior.
