AN UNLOCKED MEMORY
As we discuss the origins of her vapor, a memory comes back to Anali. She recalls a time period when Chûndra and her were close. They had been inseparable at one point. Sisters even.
Anali’s father had built a room which they shared as teenagers. At night they would tell stories of their innermost secrets and aspirations, occasionally staying up ’til dawn giggling. One night while bundled up, Chûndra told her the story of her mother’s death. Anali remembered her describing her mom simply withering away right in front of her. She had only been 11 years old at the time.

A FORCED CONSCIENCE
While the rest of 4bear’s routine returns to normal, Violet stays in the background. As clear as her objective is, today something feels a little off. To get rid of Jess she would need to do something subtle. Something that wouldn’t draw attention to herself. In the meantime, she tries to avoid her every chance she gets. She’d need to stay focused on her enemy despite her conscience plaguing her. Her gaze drifts down for an instance as she contemplates what she must next do.

THE SMELL OF LOYALTY
Under her scrutiny she watches the Chemist as she mixes a new batch of her vapor. The ingredient was a new one laced with a hint of lavender. She then test it’s affects on her drones.
Initially, they seemed unaffected. Then slowly, one by one they begin clutching their sides while howling in agony. She hadn’t expected it to be this potent. She stares at them as they experience this pain. She almost feels something similar to sympathy for them. “But their sacrifice is only necessary,” she reasons to herself. She can’t afford to have another tragedy. She was so close to getting what she wanted and couldn’t risk them leaving.

Anger? This word would only describe it politely. Her rage blazed white as she leaves her chambers. She had been used to controlling matters. Now, it seemed as though this entire time she had been double crossed. This only confirmed her disbelief in that four letter word so many people spoke of. She shudders as she remembers how some had tossed it around so casually. As if it were cliche. Used like dirty rags. Touched like dead men on pale papers. Shared like poisoned candy eaten by children on pagan nights. She’d show them. Yes she’d show them all what it means to feel what she feels.

The mole entered the foyer to inspect what all of the commotion was about. She was stunned as she saw Jess. She rests her hand on the counter to stabilize herself as hundreds of questions run through her mind. Did Jess see her? Has she been made? Not yet. Her heart pounded in her chest as backs away from the crowd. As Jess tells her story to 4bear, she watches from a distance. The mole turns her face to hide her disgust as they begin to comfort her. Jess a double agent? For how long? How could she do this? As she transcends the balcony stairs she envisions how enraged Chûndra will be once she hears this.
