A PIGMENT WHICH BREATHS
It was an honor when The 4bearance commissioned me to create the 2nd element. Jeth tried on the first prototype. The combination of the additives in the air and Violet’s terror created a dangerous toxin. We crafted an image of Anali pictured in The Euphonic on the fabric. Jeth covered his face and breathed in the scent harvested from Chaen’s flower. The pigmentation had been created and mixed with those soft petals. The dye hadn’t quite dried yet, so he was able to absorb the sweet odor which stimulated his brain synapse. The more of these we can get out, the greater impact this would have on the populace, because even though these scarves protect the wearer, the mind stirring effect is felt by those around him as well.

A LOVING STUPOR
Again, as the vehicles pass by, their smoke is released in the air. Then Chûndra’s new poison sprinkles down like snow flurries. However we hadn’t counted on how quickly this spread had become. We all watch from afar as her next victim’s stare becomes glazed over. What can we do now? If we storm into Chûndra’s palace again, it’s not like it will fix anything. The Sufna formula has already been shipped off all over the world. If we approach the petroleum companies, they’ll laugh in our faces. By the time we prove what effect the additive Chûndra gave them has on people, it will be too late. Besides, by now they’re probably being controlled by her anyway. We’re going to have to figure out how to negate the effects of her ingredient ourselves.
In the meantime, we’ve been hearing that Violet started to take on new features which Chûndra is finding difficult to control.

Chûndra walks into her palace after an inspection of the damage The 4bearance had caused to her lab. Losing Anali’s parents…was it infuriating or terrifying her? Maybe both. There was no way of knowing how much of her secrets they were able to pick up in their coma-like state. Besides, she had to figure out how 4bear was able to weaken her Crown’s powers.
She begins to sense a disturbance in the palace. Suddenly, she smells something putrid in her dining area. The stench became stronger and more bitter as she turned the corner. As her eyes met the source of the smell, she fell to the ground. This was something she wasn’t prepared for. A deformed and mangled body had been placed at the bottom of the dining room’s stairway. She gets closer, then reels back as she realizes that these had been the garments of the woman who was like a daughter to her, her apprentice Kalese. The flies had already began buzzing quite nosily now. Chûndra’s body began to tense up as her shock dissolved into curiosity. She knew this couldn’t have been the work of the 4bearance. They didn’t have it in them to do something so vicious. The scene which lain before her was evidence of someone who’d taken their time. But who’d dare do something so horrible?

The temperature in the room suddenly dropped. Anali sees these tiny impostors flying around her branches inspecting them for any petals. Their curious nature was somewhat whimsical. Their flight patterns so clumsy and hysterical even. But the threat of Violet still being active brought her back to reality. As she turns to check on her she notices Violet’s body begins to glow brightly. Something was definitely up. She didn’t think that Preet and her could afford to find out what either. They’d have to escape for now. Violet was too powerful in this state.

A putrid smell became more apparent as they continued cautiously down the hallway. This scent along with the motion they heard behind this laboratory door where the Impostors had been flying was more than disturbing. As they watch them fly into the shoot, their flexible bodies shed a green substance which oozes down the door.
Inside, they could see the flying insect’s motions more clearly now. They fly around in their drunken fashion in a circle over a structure which resembled a chair. But this structure seems to inflate and deflate, pulsating as if it were drawing strength from the energy found inside of the Moth’s belly. As Anali and Preet quietly move in closer, they watch in terror as the structure arches to the side, and then forms itself upright. It was now evident what this structure was. It not only served as a hive for the Impostors, but there was a symbiotic relationship they had with some life form underneath. Suddenly they noticed, the larvae from its’ dome begin to creep backwards forming structures like scales. This leaves a hole in the dome, revealing a soft complexion of a young woman’s face.
“No, it can’t be!” Anali whispers. “Violet. Why?”

Chaen was going to have trouble slipping by this many guards. He’d have to use his cloaking power and imitate a Triton guard.
His body leans forward as he transforms into their dazed look. He uses his covert ability to reach his family now trapped in this lair.
Underneath this building there’s too many twists and turns. All of the tunnels zig-zag like a maze in here.

He laughs when he thinks of how he used to give her such a hard time. Anali’s father, the Judge of the Ishan people, had made a decision that caused him to lose the respect of the community. They were only kids at the time, but you know how kids are. They act off of what they hear the adults say and follow the crowd. She was too cute when she got angry, though, so even after time had passed and he didn’t really believe all the rumors, he would make fun of her just to watch her nose wrinkle up and her cheeks get flushed. Good times.

SPRING EQUINOX I
Just like we style our hair, the Ishan like styling their branches. The difference is instead of it taking minutes to style, it takes months. It’s easier this part of the year because of the longer days in the sun.

She had been watching him for three days.
He would wake up about 1 p.m. and grab a late breakfast from the nearest trash can. After watching people walk around Central Park, he quarantines himself in an abandoned building to have lively conversations with a man named Bob and a child named Booger that are very real in his mind between the hours of 4 to 6 p.m. Then she watches him wail for his mom for another hour. After each psychotic episode, he begs at multiple locations. He has to keep moving to avoid police and other homeless men that would either try to seize his spot or seize him. He was only 11.
Aram couldn’t stand to watch him anymore. Tonight, when he goes to his usual spot to rest she’ll have to grab him there.

THE BRANCH THAT DOESN’T BLEED
Time: 1643. Netra battles the Birdface Crew and decimates them. Afterwards, Chûndra investigated how Netra was able to cause this type of destruction. She finds out about the Bleeding Chair which gave Netra these restorative and magnetic powers. She tries to replicate these by digging up the buried Ishan and chopping of their limbs. But it doesn’t work. The limbs she cuts only survive a day then die off. Now this opportunistic huntress turns her attention to Rïden.

Just before she went into the Dark Sleep, AnaLi Q recalls seeing a cloaked figure hovering above her. As her eyes closed his eerie grin was etched into her memory. A large hood was draped over his head so it was difficult to see his facial features. As she describes him, I start sketching. In her description, though, he has a feather tattooed on his left cheek below his eye. Further investigation revealed that he is associated with the Triton Queen Chûndra. They call him The Forecaster, because when he shows up, bad things are about to go down.

As she awoke AnaLi Q’s heart began pounding so hard it felt like it was going to break through her thorax. As a matter of fact she looked down on her branches and noticed the bark had begun to crack. However, the fact she survived this trauma gave her a sense of contentment that warmed her body…

Due to a mysterious occurence, mankind’s memory has been wiped clean of a group of people that look like us but whose extremities streach to the heavens like branches from a tree. Through a series of Art projects for the next 365 days, Leah Smithson is documenting her investigation of what this occurrence actually was. In addition, she is creating a visual anthropologic documentary of the Ishan’s story and history. Resist + Remember. Follow this compelling story through pictures and interviews of the Ishan.
There were two storms. The first, happened 774 C.E. This storm, while putting the Ishan to sleep, gave humankind amnesia. May 7, 1988 the second storm started coming in waves creating an unsettling condition in the earth. And so begins the awakening…
